creationistpostermedSo you’re a creationist or a fundamentalist, whatever. You know what? That’s fine. I don’t really care what you believe for yourself. Personally I don’t think you should be allowed to raise your kids in such a way as I think it’s cruel, but whatever. That’s just me being silly, thinking kids should have a fighting chance by teaching them what is real and how best to get along in the world, not teaching them that there was a talking snake and 2 naked people in a garden that screwed everything up for everybody. Oh, and a man died and came back to life and then flew to heaven and that’s why the kid drinks a sip of wine and eats a cracker every sunday. But oh yeah, Santa Claus was just a story his parents told him to keep him in line. Yeah, makes perfect sense.

Anyhoo… back to my issue. If you’re a creationist and/or fundamentalist, basically you believe the bible is the true and literal word of god, right? You believe your god created the world in 6 days and rested on the 7th. And if you’re a muslim, you believe whatever the quran says. You think evolution is nonsense. Hey, as long as you keep this to yourself too, I don’t give a damn.

But, if you believe your bible is so perfect and science is so flawed, then you have no need of science. So. After you finish reading this article, turn off the computer and give it to your neighbor. No more electronics. No cell phone, no microwave, no electric light. All of that is here because people… normal everyday people… wanted to make things better. According to you, god made everything perfect and the bible is the be all, end all of knowledge. Stop being a hypocrite and get back to trying to be like christ-like. Read the rest of this entry »

car-crash-churchFrom the Telegraph: Emergency forces rescued a man from his car which he crashed into a church roof in Limbach-Oberfrohna, Germany. The 23 year-old was severely injured. According to the police the driver missed a turn at high speed, continued straight ahead on a slightly rising field and then finally ‘took off’ to land in the church roof seven metres above the ground.

Of course, we all hope the kid is ok. But sobriety aside, this is too funny. I guess god wasn’t paying attention? Or maybe Zeus wanted to up the ante in the card game they were all playing in heaven? I wonder if the poor kid said ‘Oh god’ as he saw the church looming in his vision? At any rate, this is proof once again that physics is both amazing and awesome. I’d say it might also reinforce the fact that there’s no god, but you can’t prove a negative, as we all know. :)

Here are 5 christian movements that are crazy and evil. As if any christian-based movement isn’t evil, I know! LOL… anyway, I just wanted to bring these issues to your attention, if you didn’t already know about them. Read the rest of this entry »

morning geese by zeneece

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting—
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

Yesterday I wrote about how different atheists got their stripes, how we all came to the top of the religious mountain by our own path, and how we still all think differently and rationalize in our own ways. I created a survey of 6 questions to start a conversation about this topic. You can take the survey here, or over where I made it at Quibblo. It shouldn’t take too long. I really value your input. Comments are also welcome, of course! :)

I tried to add a question about superstition but I ran out of time. So feel free to comment on if you’re superstitious or not, and/or atheist/religious! Thanks muchly!

atheismAwhile ago I came to realize that there is a growing atheist community. I cautiously tapped into it and have made a few friends, which has been refreshingly nice. But the more atheists I know, the more it has come to my attention that not all atheists are evolved alike.

Now, before you get mad, I’m just stating the obvious. At least it’s obvious to me now. But I came upon this realization rather slowly because I guess I figured most people who also came to understand that there’s no proof for gods would have had a similar path to mine.

I found I couldn’t be further from the truth. That’s the great thing about atheism, in some ways. We’ve all reached a similar conclusion we’ve all found our own way to the top of the mountain, but from a different path. Some of us had very hard, rough paths, losing religious family and friends along the way… casualties of our free thinking. Others have found the path easy and natural, never having truly believed in the first place. Then a few seemed to have been born on the mountain top, never brainwashed in the river of religion. We have a new president! Our 44th president of the United States of America!
The full video of the oath and address available here.

This is an exciting time! And dare I say it? The future looks promising. We have some hard work to do, to hopefully fix the mistakes of previous administrations, but if President Obama really meant what he said in his speech, I think things are looking up. I’ll say this for our new president, he gives a great speech. It’s thrilling to see an eloquent and educated person leading us to our bright future once again.

I want to go through and highlight some of the points he made. My emphasis is in bold, the transcript is in its entirety, thank you Huffington Post. Read the rest of this entry »
