The TRUTH about UNTIMELY DEATHS!

John Lennon (Singer):
Some years before, during an interview with an American Magazine, he said:
“Christianity will end, it will disappear. I do not have to argue about that. I am certain. Jesus was ok, but his subjects were too simple. Today we are
more famous than Him” (1966).
Lennon, after saying that the Beatles were more famous than Jesus Christ, was shot six times.

Is god lazy? Lennon said he was bigger than Jesus in 1966. Mark Chapman shot him in 1980.
Fourteen years later! Was god too busy all those years assassinating other sinners? Is he a procrastinator?
“Oh yeah, that one blasphemous beatle. I really should smite him.”
The next day:
“Crap! I forgot! again!”

And so on, for the next fourteen years!

MARILYN MONROE:
She was visited by Billy Graham during a presentation of a show. He is a preacher and Evangelist and the Spirit of God had sent him to preach to her.
After hearing what the Preacher had to say, she said: “I don’t need your Jesus”
A week later, she was found dead in her apartment.

Of course, the fact that Marilyn Monroe was Jewish is inconsequential!

Now consider:

Saloth Sar, better known as Pol Pot, was the leader of the Cambodian communist movement known as the Khmer Rouge
During his time in power, Pol Pot imposed a version of agrarian collectivization, forcing city dwellers to relocate to the countryside to work in collective farms and forced labor projects, toward a goal of “restarting civilization” in a “Year Zero”.
The combined effects of slave labor, malnutrition, poor medical care, and executions resulted in the deaths of an estimated 1.7 to 2.5 million people, approximately 21% of the Cambodian population.

Also, he was not a Christian. Also, he lived to be 70.

Aleister Crowley, born Edward Alexander Crowley, was an English occultist, writer, mountaineer, poet, playwright, yogi, and possible spy He was an influential member of occult organizations, including the Golden Dawn, the A∴A∴, and Ordo Templi Orientis (O.T.O.), and is known today for his magical writings, especially The Book of the Law, the central sacred text of Thelma. He gained notoriety during his lifetime, and was denounced in the popular press of the day as “The wickedest man in the world.”

And yet lived to be 72.

Donatien Alphonse François, Marquis de Sade, was a French aristocrat and writer famous for his libertine sexuality and lifestyle. His works include novels, short stories, plays, and political tracts; in his lifetime some were published under his own name, while others appeared anonymously and Sade denied being their author. He is best known for his erotic novels, which combined philosophical discourse with pornography, depicting bizarre sexual fantasies with an emphasis on violence, criminality, and blasphemy against the Catholic Church. He was a proponent of extreme freedom (or at least licentiousness), unrestrained by morality, religion or law.
The term “sadism” is derived from his name.

Lived to be 74.

Idi Amin Dada, The military dictator and President of Uganda from 1971 to 1979.
Amin’s rule was characterised by human rights abuses, political repression, ethnic persecution, extrajudicial killings, nepotism, corruption and gross economic mismanagement. The number of people killed as a result of his regime is estimated by international observers and human rights groups to range from 100,000 to 500,000.
A polygamist, Idi Amin married at least six women, three of whom he divorced. He married his first and second wives, Malyamu and Kay, in 1966. The next year, he married Nora and then Nalongo Madina in 1972. On 26 March 1974, he announced on Radio Uganda that he had divorced Malyamu, Nora and Kay.
Kay died on 13 August 1974, Her body was found dismembered.

Lived to the ripe old age of 78.

Finally, the REAL TRUTH comes out!

UNTIMELY DEATHS?

Every day, almost 16,000 children die from hunger-related causes–one child every five seconds.
In the time it takes you to read one E-mail full of “little lies for Jesus” at least 200 people will have died of starvation.
Over 4 million will die this year.

“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing?
Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing?
Then whence cometh EVIL?
Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God?”

- Epicurus (Greek philosopher, BC 341-270)

Use Your Brains.

Charles already got an angry response and replied:

On Fri, Jan 29, 2010 at 5:35 PM, (unnamed Christian) wrote:

Man is where evil dwells not God. Don’t blame MAN’S shortcomings, cruelty, greed, racism, etc,,, on God!. Man has a choice….all of us have a choice. What we do with that choice is up to us. Our hand is not being forced by any being including God….use you brains!!!!!!!!!!

Charles’ reply:

An intelligent man would never blame god for any of those things, because he understands that god is but a creation of man.
Don’t devalue all humanity by blaming all the world’s injustice on them. You do not only the world, but yourself a disservice.
It is ludicrous to claim that the people who died in the earthquake in Haiti choose that to happen. As ridiculous as claiming that children choose to die of starvation.
Saying that “all of us have a choice” is the biggest “blame the victim” pile of steaming… well you get the idea, that religion ever propagated.

If you believe in god then you already believe in a place god created that is without suffering and yet all the people there still have free will, it is called heaven.
There is no reason an all powerful god couldn’t have made earth the same way. Unless he is just a dick?

But again, that would be silly to blame the world’s problems on an imaginary being. As silly as blaming people for things that they have no control over.

Things just happen, good and bad. It is a result of living on an imperfect natural world we have by chance evolved to live on.

Maybe someday you can see reality without the “Jesus glasses”. Good luck with that.

And I guarantee a week won’t go by in your life you won’t regret walking out, letting them get the best of you.
Well, I’m not going home.
We’ve gone too far!
And I’m going to stay right here and fight for this lost cause.
A day may come when the courage of men fails, but it is not this day.
A line must be drawn here! This far, no further!
I’m not saying it’s going to be easy.
You’re going to work harder than you’ve ever worked before.
But that’s fine, we’ll just get tougher winning!
A person grits his teeth, and shows real determination.
Failure is Not an option!
That’s how winning is done!
Believe me when I say,
We can break this army here.
And win just one for the giver.
But I say to you what every warrior has known since the beginning of time.
You’ve got to get mad.
I mean plum mad dog mean.
If you would be free men then you must
Fight to fulfill that promise! Let us
Cut out their living guts.
One inch at a time.
And they will know what we can do!
HOO!
Let no man forget how menacing we are. We are Lions!
Like a big bear, man!
This is Your time!
Sieze the day.
Never surrender.
Victory or death!
That’s the Chicago way.
Who’s with me!?
Clap. Clap! Don’t let Tink die! Clap!
Alright!
Let’s Fly!
And gentlemen in England now abed
Will Know my name is the LORD when I
Tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they’ll never take
Our Independence Day!

Found at Infidelicacy, Thanks!

Freethinkers, Atheists, Agnostics, all people who cherish their rights and freedoms, we must unite! We must find common ground and common cause. We must eschew apathy as the evil it is and rally for justice, common sense, reason, science, skepticism and critical thinking!

It’s happening, slowly. We must encourage and nurture this brave cause against the enemy of mindless, hypocritical religious bullies.

Will you be the problem? Will you wallow in apathy and ignorance? Will you let the senseless automatons controlled by their religious leaders keep you in the dark shadows under their jackboot of fear, repression and false morals?

Or are you part of the solution? Will you stand tall and proud? Free of gods, myths and fairy tales, free to think clearly and independently? The choice is yours.

In that vein I would like to have one symbol, an atheism logo or a freethinking logo that would encompass the whole idea, to help us come together and make us all stronger than we could ever be alone. Maybe an atheist creed, or a freethinking creed. Something we can all get behind. I wonder if such things are possible. I would like to think they are. Suggestions, ideas and comments are Always welcome.

In all fairness, there are a small handful of decent commentaries to be found if you really work for it. They have to print a few things that aren’t completely batshit crazy if they want to call themselves “credible”.

Tonight this little gem caught my eye: If there is no God.

What we’re presented with is something of a list stating why the world ‘needs’ god, penned by one Dennis Prager, whom WND cites as “one of America’s most respected and popular nationally syndicated radio talk-show hosts”. I don’t make a habit of listening to syndicated radio programs (outside of NPR) so I can’t speak for his radio appeal. Perhaps I’m limiting myself by not listening to these shows but one man can only take so much abuse.

I encourage you to follow the previous link and give it a read if you’ve the fortitude to do so. For those unable, here’s a brief rundown:

Prager starts off citing that religion has caused some pretty nasty stuff (“intolerance, hatred, division, inquisitions, persecutions of “heretics,” holy wars”). Off to a good start, I’m in!

Next, sadly, he Godwin’s himself with a Reductio ad Hitlerum style Auschwitz reference. He was off to such a good start too…

For every thousand students who learn about the Spanish Inquisition and the Salem Witch Trials, maybe two learn to associate Gulag, Auschwitz, the Cultural Revolution and the Cambodian genocide with secular regimes and ideologies.

For all the problems associated with belief in God, the death of God leads to far more of them.

Students don’t learn to associate those things with secular regimes and/or ideologies because it’s bullshit, Dennis. Public schools might not teach the most crystal clear versions of history (especially in regard to the U.S.) but they’ve manage to not bring religion into every single classroom conversation, especially those where it’s beyond ridiculous to do so. This dead-horse-beating “no god = hitler” style of argument really needs to get shot in the head, once and for all. It’s plenty easy to counter-point but come on guys, get some new material!

Godwin aside he goes on with his list. While nothing he uses to ‘prove’ his point is totally new, this is the meat and potatoes of the piece, so I’ll reference the points that aren’t rhetorical.

1. Without God, there is no good and evil; there are only subjective opinions that we then label “good” and “evil.” This does not mean that an atheist cannot be a good person. Nor does it mean that all those who believe in God are good; there are good atheists and there are bad believers in God. It simply means that unless there is a moral authority that transcends humans from which emanates an objective right and wrong, “right” and “wrong” no more objectively exist than do “beautiful” and “ugly.”

“Good” and “evil” are subjective opinions, Denny, much like “beautiful” and “ugly” as mentioned. His version of good and not-so-good is subjective in regard to his religious teachings, which, not everyone holds true. If Dennis here is suggesting that everyone whom doesn’t agree with his version of faith is “evil” I’d recommend he give Bill Donohue a call. Donohue might be a bit more abrasive then Denny here but they seem to share the same black and white version of reality. The notion that people need some sort of supernatural guidance to form decent social mores is inept.

2. Without God, there is no objective meaning to life. We are all merely random creations of natural selection whose existence has no more intrinsic purpose or meaning than that of a pebble equally randomly produced.

We’re not, in the grand scheme of things but people have a tendency to think so. Though our universal worth may be no better then a rock we are truly amazing animals. We can appreciate the world around us, in so many ways that nothing else can, without a supernatural superiority complex. I feel a bit sorry for anything that needs an ego-crutch to enjoy life. This is not a depressing or grim notion, it is simply how things are.

3. Life is ultimately a tragic fare if there is no God. We live, we suffer, we die – some horrifically, many prematurely – and there is only oblivion afterward.

“Tragic”, much like “good” and “evil” is subjective. I see nothing tragic about the natural order of things. We live, we die. See #2 for more details.

(He starts to get a little redundant so I’ll abridge. Follow the link if you want the full text.)

4. Re-words #1, starting with “Human beings need instruction manuals…”.

5. Rewords #3, talks about fate and brings up a nazi…again.

6. Equates Western Europe to being godless cowards, calls communism evil, fails to make an argument.

7. Calls marxism “utterly irrational” (subjectified!) and blathers on about how irrational it is to think men and women are equal, ends with “while the secular, without religion to enable the non-rational to express itself, end up applying their irrational beliefs to society, where such irrationalities do immense harm.”

I’d love to address this one further but my inner rage has boiled over by reading it more than once. Show me one society where equality between men and women has caused immense harm?

8. If there is no God, the human being has no free will. He is a robot whose every action is dictated by genes and environment. Only if one posits human creation by a Creator that transcends genes and environment who implanted the ability to transcend genes and environment can humans have free will.

Without god we’re robots?! This is a new one! So instinct = robot and the opposite of that would be free will? Free to deny instinct? The logic does not follow. We could go into humans higher brain functions, the social skills that enabled us to survive as long as we have or even how the concept of free will is null and void in a creator-less existence but all he seems to be doing is invoking the same theme of #2, yet again.

9. Once again rewords #2, ending with “This explains the movement among the secularized elite to equate humans and animals”. We are animals! How is it people cannot accept that?

10. Without God, there is little to inspire people to create inspiring art. That is why contemporary art galleries and museums are filled with “art” that celebrates the scatological, the ugly and the shocking. Compare this art to Michelangelo’s art in the Sistine Chapel. The latter elevates the viewer – because Michelangelo believed in something higher than himself and higher than all men.

We’ve gone from genocide to the “demise” of art in less than a page…amazing. Art has no quality control and is open to interpretation by the viewer (it’s…subjective!). While I do agree that some modern art can be a bit ‘unique’, what is deemed “ugly” or “shocking” might be thought provoking and appealing to the guy next to you. That guy’s probably a godless heathen, marxist or western european though…right? What Michelangelo believed in was a paycheck, beyond that we can’t be sure.

11. “Without God, nothing is holy.” He goes on to define what holy is…etc. He’s not making am argument here at all. Holiness does not come from supernatural beings, it comes from a seemingly supernatural leap in logic. Things can be important to a person for many reasons but any suggestion that these objects might be more then just objects, due to some god-beings intervention, is crazy.

12. Says without god man becomes the supreme being, failing to bother with suggestion that there might not be a “supreme” being or any need for one at all. We’ve covered this already in #2.

13. “Without God, there are no inalienable human rights. Evolution confers no rights. Molecules confer no rights. Energy has no moral concerns.” follows with a statement about the U.S. constitution. This is a glorified copy of #1. We can, and do, create social mores without gods…etc etc etc

14. Closes out the list with an epic, yet typical, Godwin. Claims that “the widespread cruelties and the sheer number of innocents murdered by secular regimes – specifically Nazi, Fascist and Communist regimes – dwarfs the evil done in the name of religion.”

We do not need religion to be decent people. People will commit such atrocities with or without it (though, without, we would be significantly better off for a plethora of reasons I’ll not go into here). I know people that feel their lives have been bettered by religion, which they pleasantly keep to themselves and appropriate social circles, and that’s fine by me. They’re socially aware enough to know that not everyone thinks as they do, they’re not outwardly hostile or angry at those whom would appose them for that belief. They’re generally good people that do good things just the same as the atheists and humanists they’re friends with.

Yep, atheists have morals too. Just because it’s not written in a book or carved into stones doesn’t mean we can’t mentally grade what is and isn’t good for ourselves and society en large.

I’m an atheist because I haven’t heard any good reasons to think that gods exist, and I can think of lots of good reasons to think they don’t. I’m in exactly the same position with regard to Zeus, Apollo, invisible pink unicorns, and the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Are you agnostic about Zeus? Are you agnostic about invisible pink unicorns? Do you feel arrogant about disbelieving in the Flying Spaghetti Monster?

Sure, I can’t prove that gods don’t exist anywhere in the universe. But because there’s no evidence for them, and lots of evidence against them, I feel confident saying, “Gods don’t exist.” Just like you feel confident saying, “Invisible pink unicorns don’t exist” and “Santa Claus doesn’t exist.”

Actually, I can do even better.

If you define your god precisely enough, I might be able to prove that your god cannot exist, in the same way I can prove a square circle can’t exist, in any universe. Here’s how.

Atheism isn’t arrogant, just like invisible-unicorn-disbelief isn’t arrogant.

Atheists tend to think it is arrogant of believers to assert their claims without any evidence.

Lesson learned, and thank you for the excellent comments.

First, how about we define skepticism. I have found that Dictionary.com is a great place for this sort of thing. They reference several dictionaries for each entry.

So, from the American Heritage Dictionary through Dictionary.com, skepticism is defined as:

n.

A doubting or questioning attitude or state of mind; dubiety. See Synonyms at uncertainty.

Philosophy

The ancient school of Pyrrho of Elis that stressed the uncertainty of our beliefs in order to oppose dogmatism.

The doctrine that absolute knowledge is impossible, either in a particular domain or in general.

A methodology based on an assumption of doubt with the aim of acquiring approximate or relative certainty.

Doubt or disbelief of religious tenets.

I’ve been mulling this issue over for a couple of days, and I feel that getting sidetracked with minute details would be pedantic and mind numbingly boring. This site is about breaking free of the shackles of organized religion, not about caffeine content in sodas, or if the Mayo Clinic is a good source of information on medical questions.

Let’s get to the meat of the issue. I made some leaps in my argument on being skeptical. Exactly what you don’t want to do. But I made those leaps based on my 39 years of experience and all the information I’ve gathered for myself in that time. I made good decisions for myself. My mistake was in not explaining them fully to you (I did that to avoid being pedantic and boring) and therefore assuming that MY logic was right for YOU. It’s an easy mistake to make.

Belief in a god is a personal issue. Only you can decide for yourself if gods exist.

See, most of us are taught at an early age, from the time we’re born, to believe in a particular god or gods. It’s hardwired into us. It become part of our foundation of belief. It takes a lot to untangle and dismantle that foundation of lies and myths. But inevitably we each walk that path alone. My information may prove useful to you, but you have to think for yourself if my logic or the information I give you works for you.

I’m just a simple person who shed religion years ago. I don’t have any fancy college degrees. I dish the information out plain and simple, with a dollop of humor. It might not be right for you, or it may just be perfect and logical.

So, I’ll just simply say, I hope this site gives you good information and can be a repository of facts that you can turn to again and again. But never get all your answers from one place. Think for yourself. Use your reason and logic. Does it ring true based on everything else you’ve learned? Perhaps you want to look for a second opinion somewhere else. Or a third, or more. Maybe part of it works for you, but some of it doesn’t. That’s fine. You’re unique, just like everyone else.

My husband drinks Red Bull, and my friend thinks I do too. I don’t actually. I drink Java Monster. It’s delicious and is in a 16 ounce can instead of the paltry 8 ounces you get from Red Bull. So of course I read the article because I don’t want my husband and I to be harming our health unknowingly.

My friend – we’ll call him Sam to protect his identity – said that he always knew this stuff was bad for you. And that was that for him. Case closed. I said I wanted more data. He said, “I don’t.. that stuff’s loaded with enough caffeine to explode an elephant’s heart… no more data needed.”

What? Are you kidding me?

Why am I writing about this today? Because you need to be skeptical. You need to keep an open mind and question what you see and hear. It’s in your best interest. Sam changed his behavior and his thinking by reading one article online. Assuming he read the whole thing. He probably only read one paragraph. Still, he’ll never drink Red Bull again.

The study was done on 30 university students between 20-24 years old. That’s such a small group, don’t you think? It was done one time from what I can tell. That’s it? What about a double blind study? What about a control group and testing different age brackets? Men and women react the same, etc?

The doctor in charge, Scott Willoughby, of the Cardiovascular Research Centre at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Adelaide University, was so alarmed by his tiny little study, that he released his findings to the press. But not the study itself, at least not that I can find anywhere.

From the article, I should mention: Red Bull today emphatically denied that the drink, which is distributed to 143 countries worldwide, was dangerous. In a statement, it said that Red Bull had been proved safe by “numerous scientific studies”, and that it had never been banned from anywhere it had been introduced.

To Sam’s claims of “enough caffeine to explode an elephant’s heart”, I’m sorry to say, Sam, you’re quite wrong. I don’t think there are any studies on exactly the amount of caffeine needed to stop an elephant’s heart. But one can of Red Bull isn’t going to do it.

Let’s find some more information on caffeine. Let’s try the Mayo Clinic, they seem like a good choice.

It seems that more than 500 or 600 mg of caffeine a day can lead to restlessness, anxiety, headaches and other problems. No mention of what those other problems are.

Oh, first there’s a link about if caffeine is dehydrating, let’s see if that’s true first, bear with me… This is awesome! Recent research has shown that caffeine is only a diuretic if you consume large amounts, over 500 or 600 mg of it in a day. Other than that, coffee and soda drinks hydrate as well as water.

Back to your regularly scheduled lesson for today on caffeine content. I’ve taken the information from the Mayo Clinic’s set of tables and turned it into one table for you here, listed in order of milligrams of caffeine. Just click the image to see it full size.

Sorry, Sam. I win this argument. Red Bull doesn’t really contain all that much caffeine. But wow, Starbucks packs it in, don’t they? Even so, you can have one coffee grande at Starbucks every day. It might give you the jitters, but it seems safe from what I gather. According to the Mayo Clinic, you could therefore drink around 5 or 6 Red Bulls in a day and it won’t harm you. That would be extreme, and I don’t recommend it, but that would be less than 500 mg of caffeine in the day.

So, while we learned about caffeine content today, I hope you will also remember, not every news story is solid fact and truth. Not every study is done properly, and even if it is, it is only one study. More would need to be done to corroborate the evidence found.

People, news outlets, news networks, TV networks, churches, doctors doing studies and whoever gives funding, all of them, have their own agenda. Propaganda is rampant. Your only recourse is to be skeptical and question the information instead of accepting everything you hear as “gospel truth.”
