You may have noticed that we have a new author here at HDC. His name is Groovecat and he recently wrote Religion and Sexual Predators for us. I asked him to tell us a little about himself and here is what he had to say:
Born and raised Roman Catholic. Had issues with it early on. Asked one too many times “but who made god?” in catechism and spent a lot of time with my nose pushed against a spot on the black-board that the good sisters used as punishment for asking too many questions. Favorite childhood story is “the Emperor has no clothes”.
Jack of all trades by vocation, musician by avocation. Chaser of women, catcher of few. Hedonistically free. Could lose a few pounds, but hey, who couldn’t, huh? Enjoys his martinis, John Steinbeck novels and the salmon-goat cheese pizza at Tapestry in Los Gatos ( available only in the summer from the out-door wood-fired pizza oven, by request). Favorite movie? Aliens with Sigourney Weaver. A classic story of man vs. nature, along with a kick to the status quo of the time by making the hero a woman.
Hired gun and musical mercenary. Spends his free time sleeping, eating, breathing and watching t.v.
Deconversion story to follow.
The A(theist)-Team is growing! There’s me, you’re Incorrigible Ring Leader with a Heart of Gold, Johnny the Erudite Superhero, and now the Intrepid Groovecat.
Oh, don’t hate me for that. Most of you are probably too young to even catch the reference. I had to do it, I was contractually obligated.
So you may have noticed the post titled How Many gods Are In the Bible?. Well, may I introduce to you, Johnny! He’s commented on HDC before, and befriended me on Facebook, and I realized I really like how he thinks and his fresh perspective. As you may know, I am always looking for people to contribute to HDC, so that you get the best Dead Cats possible. When I asked Johnny if he’d be interested in joining in, he said yes! Woot!
So give him a warm welcome. Hopefully we’ll have his deconversion story in the Testimonial section soon, but you can read a bit about him on the About page. As you can see, he’s now our official resident Superhero. Woot Woot!
Thanks for joining us Johnny.

It’s that time of year, my friends. The Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year for us in the Northern Hemisphere, has arrived.

Have you ever been spread too thin? Like butter and jelly on toast… and there’s just not enough to get all the corners. It’s edible but not as delicious as it could be. I’m like that. My company came and went, but I feel like I’m still run down. My husband and I are fighting a flu or cold or something too.
To top it off, I have too many pans in the fire. Tomorrow I’ll take one pan out by consolidating one more blog into this one. Actually, you might notice that I’ve already imported the few articles I wanted to save from there. Tomorrow is when I do the forwarding.
Anyway, that’s the good news. One less thing pulling me away from Heaving Dead Cats. Because we all want to heave dead cats, now don’t we!
I sure hope we don’t catch this nasty cold we’re fighting off. If I disappear for a few days, it means I’m miserable, on the couch, unable to get to my computer. I’ll be back though. I make a mean chicken soup when I’m sick. I don’t think it gets me better any faster, but it sure is comforting.
We’re still looking for contributors and authors, whether you want to submit something once, or you want to do a regular post. Email me at heavingdeadcats@gmail.com.
I just barely survived having company for over a week. It was a near thing, but I somehow made it through without going totally crazy or killing my guests (my sisters-in-law). So I’ll get back in the swing of things as soon as I can, but the next three days will also be incredibly busy as I’m taking a motorcycle safety course.
Again, let’s hope I don’t kill anyone!
I hope you’re all doing fine and are happy.
Just a quick note to let you know we’re joining the Atheist Blogroll, so direct your attention to the shiny and new link on the right sidebar.
I might not have the right code installed yet, but hey, I’m not that much of a geek.
My company arrived safe and sound, so I don’t have much free time. Don’t forget, we’re looking for YOU to post to HDC! Whether you want to post something just once, occasionally, or you’d like to do something more regularly, let us know!
A Little Spring Cleaning at HDC
Hello everyone. Sometimes a whim overtakes me and I just want to do a bit of sprucing up. I updated the theme I use here at HDC and it screwed things up a bit (like my header). Then I decided to look for a new theme that might work a bit better than the one I’m using now. So bear with me. I’m going to do some fiddling around which means things might look a bit wonky while I try to make it work.
If you see errors or problems, try refreshing after a few minutes, because I might be working on it. Or if you have comments, suggestions or complaints, comment away!
