“There have been numerous cases where practicing christians have been obliged to obey the same laws and abide by the same rules as everybody else.” (How Barbaric!) Jesus and Mo

Ok, I don’t believe in the antichrist, of course. But there are people on this planet that are so heinous, so evil, so insidious, that a word is needed to describe them. I use antichrist because I can’t think of anything that encompasses evil like that word. If you have a better term, please share.

I think I have a candidate for the antichrist position. I used to think it was oprah and dr. phil together, tearing America down through bullshit and lies, making America weak and soft and stupid. But now I’ve been introduced to the insidious pastor rick warren. This fat, uncharismatic car salesman (soul salesman?) thinks he’s the Brain and we’re all Pinky. “What are we going to do tonight, Brain?” “Same thing we do every night, Pinky, try to take over the world.”

You think I exaggerate? I wish! The Huffington Post had a long and disturbing post about parasite warren the other day. Here is a video so you can see and hear this slimeball yourself. Notice when he’s speaking to the crowd of 30,000 people how eerily silent they are. How obedient and passive they are.

Seriously, is this dude appealing at all? Why do so many people respect and listen to him? WHY!? Did you read the Purpose Driven Life? Or the Purpose Driven Church? Have you tuned in to listen to this creep? Does he move you to do good works in the name of Jesus? Have you drunk the koolaid?

From the video, here is a transcript that is from the Huffington Post article:

Partial transcript of Rick Warren speech

[ ~minute 33:00 ]

“God is going to use you to change the world.

“We have a kingdom that nothing can destroy… it’s indestructible, it’s unshakable, going to last forever, it’s going to cover the planet.

So the kingdom is multinational, it’s powerful, it’s eternal and, number four (this is the best news), it’s inevitable because God is in control of history. History is his story.

And the Bible says this in Matthew 24 : ‘The Good news about God’s kingdom will be preached into all the world, in every nation, and then the end’s going to come. ‘

And you can go argue about prophecy all you want but Jesus Christ is not going to conclude history until everybody he’s wanted to hear the world has had a chance to hear the word. But one day God’s going to bring everything to a culmination.

For the past 18 months we have been on a stealth, secret mission – project – around the world. We’ve been sending members out, actually over 4500 members somewhere overseas, over the period of time, the last few years, going out to do what we’re gonna call the P.E.A.C.E. Plan.

You’ve been hearing little snippets about it, today we’re going to unveil it publicly. But the first thing before I even talk about it in a minute is you need to understand that at the heart of the P.E.A.C.E. Plan is this theme – The Kingdom of God.

Saddleback and our Purpose Driven Network has now trained over 400,000 pastors in over 162 countries.”

[ Minute ~43:00 ]

“What is the vision for the next 25 years ? I’ll tell you what it is.

It is the global expansion of the kingdom of God.

It is the total mobilization of his church.

And the third part is the goal of a radical devotion of every believer.

Now, I choose that word ‘radical’ intentionally, because only radicals change the world.

Everything great done in this world is done by passionate people.

Moderate people get moderately nothing done. And moderation will never slay the global giants. . .”

[ minute 48:45 ]

“In 1939, in a stadium much like this, in Munich Germany, they packed it out with young men and women in brown shirts, for a fanatical man standing behind a podium named Adolf Hitler, the personification of evil.

And in that stadium, those in brown shirts formed with their bodies a sign that said, in the whole stadium, “Hitler, we are yours.”

And they nearly took the world.

Lenin once said, “give me 100 committed, totally committed men and I’ll change the world.” And, he nearly did.

A few years ago, they took the sayings of Chairman Mao, in China, put them in a little red book, and a group of young people committed them to memory and put it in their minds and they took that nation, the largest nation in the world by storm because they committed to memory the sayings of the Chairman Mao.

When I hear those kinds of stories, I think ‘what would happen if American Christians, if world Christians, if just the Christians in this stadium, followers of Christ, would say ‘Jesus, we are yours’ ?

What kind of spiritual awakening would we have ? ”

[ minute 51:50 ]

“Jesus said, ‘I want you to do this publicly.’ So what I want you to do is take the card, and in just a minute, and if you say ‘Rick, I am willing to serve God’s purposes in my generation.’

I want you to open up to the sign that says ‘Whatever it takes.’

Whatever it takes.

And I want you to just say, ‘This is my commitment, before God and in front of everybody else. I’m in.’ ”

And I would invite you to just stand quietly and hold up ‘Whatever it takes’. . .

I’m looking at a stadium full of people who are saying ‘whatever it takes’.

Whatever it takes, God. Time, talent, energy, money, effort, vision… God, whatever it takes.

Whatever it takes, that’s what I’m going to do.

And I believe that today we are making history. We’re making history that’s going to start a movement that will bring a new Reformation in the church of God and a new spiritual awakening in our world. And, our world needs it.

And today, as you say ‘whatever it takes,’ you’re saying publicly, “I’m in, God. I’m in…

…I’m in.’ “

Does that creep you out? A member of Huffpost sums it up rather succinctly:

JustAThought56 commented: I think it is an excellent metaphor and I understand it perfectly. He wanted to give an example of how strong and unshakable one’s faith should be in one of the world’s most influential spiritual leaders. So he picked the mindless adherence of masses of scared and demoralized people to the ranting and raving of a megalomaniac with homicidal tendencies that resulted in the horrific deaths of millions of people and exploded the world into mind-numbingly destructive global warfare. What’s not to understand?

Need more?

“Stop dreaming and start doing,” the Purpose Driven Life author told his Anaheim Stadium crowd. Warren described a global Christian movement to bring the message of Jesus Christ to every man, woman and child on Earth. “It’s going to cover the planet,” he proclaimed, “and then the end is going to come.”

Calling for “total mobilization of this church” and “radical devotion” to the cause, Pastor Warren sketched out his vision, which he declared was from God, of a “revolution”, launched through Warren’s “Purpose Driven” network of hundreds of thousands as pastors globally, to create a Christian world regime.

I’ve mentioned his associations with Uganda. See the Huffpost piece to read the full horror story.

Now here is the piece de resistance:

During his Anaheim speech, Warren revealed that he’d received a message from God to seek more influence, power and fame. God, Warren narrated, led him to Psalm 72, “Solomon’s prayer for more influence… in Psalm 72 [Solomon] says ‘God, I want you to make me more influential. God, I want you to give me more power. I want you to bless my life more. God, I want you to spread the fame of my name through other countries.’”

“It sounded pretty selfish,” mused Warren but, as he explained to the crowd, God had led him on a path towards solving the five biggest global problems.

Beyond ‘spiritual poverty’, egocentric leadership is the next most oppressive ‘global giant’, according to Rick Warren, and thus a higher priority than HIV/AIDS, poverty, and other material afflictions. “The world is full of little Saddams,” he observed, “they’re in every country, they’re in every church, they’re in every business, they’re in every homeowner’s association. They’re everywhere. You give a guy a little power and it goes to his head. “

Um, hello? Pot? This is Kettle! This slimeball has been on the cover of Time, and TED has given him a forum. Now our future hope, our future president Obama is giving him a forum to talk to all of America on an historic occassion. Why? This is how evil gets an insidious foothold. Sheeple blindly follow. Pay attention, my friends. This is nothing to take lightly.

Let’s hope I’m wrong and this guy is saddlebacking Ted Haggard in a public restroom next January.

4) To saddleback is to rail against gay sex in public while secretly indulging in the same in private. Ted Haggard? Total saddlebacker. Larry Craig? Saddlebacker. Rick Warren? Probably a saddlebacker. (Found here at Infidelicacy, thanks!)

We went out to dinner and over margaritas that’s what my sister in law said. “I kind of respect Hitler. I have no problem with him. I don’t understand what the big deal is.”

Um, WTF!? For some reason I was shushed from expressing my opinion. (Maybe because I was only having iced tea and wasn’t drinking margaritas?) My husband and his cousin shushed me and took over trying to explain “what the big deal with Hitler is.”

I was astonished that anyone could honestly believe this kind of nonsense. The thing is, this person, whom I love as my own sister, is walking around thinking that Hitler wasn’t such a bad guy, that he wasn’t allowed to be an artist, so that makes it all ok. Oh, and that the systematic extermination of anyone non-Aryan didn’t really happen.

One person, who she didn’t name, told her these things. And she just believed them, letting that person’s skewed view of reality overwrite anything she might have learned in school or over time.

Even after we talked to her about how evil he was, she wouldn’t budge. The next day, even without margaritas, she said she still didn’t see what the big deal was.

Ok, I’m not totally obsessed with Hitler. She brought him up in conversation, not me. I just went apoplectic that anyone could so pointedly skew reality to suit their narrow worldview based on one person’s opinion.

But doesn’t this happen all the time, everywhere? People watch TV, someone suggests something that seems plausible and the next day they are talking about it over coffee as if it’s cold hard fact. It’s so easy to do.

I don’t claim to be perfect either. I make mistakes all the time. I have a tendency to be gullible when talking to someone. Usually common sense and reason prevail after I have time to think about it. But even then, it’s natural to want to believe people, especially if you trust them for other things.

I just signed up for some new podcasts yesterday. I like to listen to people talk while I’m cooking or washing dishes. (I know, I’m weird). I signed up for Skeptoid and The Skeptic’s Guide to the Universe. (both through iTunes). Critical thinking is so important, but I don’t think it’s really that natural, at least not to me.

This is a big step up for me, one that I’m really enjoying. I was listening to a morning radio show for the longest time. But I got really tired of them and thought, there’s got to be good intellectual podcasts out there.

Of course, I also listen to our very own Hess, The Feeble Lance. But I wanted a variety of intellectual opinions and information. Because you can’t get all your needs met from just one source.

Ok, I just wanted to share this with you. It was too bizarre to keep to myself. Now I have to go get ready to take my motorcycle safety course today, tomorrow and Sunday. Wish me luck!
